Participating in therapy with your partner can be daunting, but ultimately a very enriching experience that can have long-lasting positive benefits. If you both want to become more effective partners, rather than simply find ways to make the other person change, you are on the right track. How it works:

Couples counseling usually starts out with an introductory session where we will talk about both partners’ goals (and fears) regarding therapy. This is followed by an individual session with each partner to obtain background information and to gain a sense of how each individual can best be supported as we work toward your goals as a couple. Subsequent sessions will usually involve all parties and will focus on the areas that are of importance to you. Progress is slower when sessions revolve around the latest argument rather than working toward the goals established early on.

Length of sessions:

Joint sessions will usually be 90 minutes long. If your schedules require shorter (1 hour) appointments, this can be accommodated in most instances and rates will be prorated.
